About

My dissertation research investigates the correlation between estimates of biological distance and population structure based on genetic and non-metric dental data to determine whether these independent datasets produce the same information about biological relationships among past populations. Though other studies have examined the general agreement between these estimates based on genetic and dental data, such comparisons involve datasets from different sites and different individuals, often at a very large scale (e.g., intercontinental populations).

The novelty of my project is that it: 1) examines biological relationships among populations on a smaller, local scale (in this case, among coastal Kenya populations), which are more commonly the focus of (bio)archaeological research, and 2) uses genetic and dental data from the same individuals to obtain a more comprehensive picture of the agreement between these independent datasets.

I welcome feedback and inquiries from other researchers interested in this topic and those working in coastal Kenya.
