I'm interested in how individuals learn the distributional patterns---particularly patterns of assimilation---that make up the bulk of what's usually called "phonological knowledge", as well as how these patterns arise in populations of speakers over time. Methodologically, this involves modelling acquisition in an exemplar-based framework, and multi-agent modelling (embedding the acquisition model) of population-level language transmission patterns.
